PAIR OF CALGARY BUCKS PLAYERS EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM AND ON THE FIELD

by Cam McLachlan

For several years, the Calgary Bucks formerly known as the Calgary Junior Dinos, have taken pride in developing young athletes into fine young men and preparing them for the next stage in their lives.  Two current Calgary Bucks 18U players have gone above and beyond by managing their time in the program, and also in the classroom.  While fully committing themselves to a year-round baseball training schedule of 3 to 5 days each week, Dominic Leakos and Nathan Barth have also maintained exceptional academic achievement throughout their high school years, and have subsequently set themselves up for great success moving forward into University.  Playing together for many years and becoming great friends, these two athletes also have similar interests in the classroom.  Both have decided to major in Engineering when they begin their post secondary studies this coming fall.  After being accepted to several top Engineering Faculties across Canada, Nathan has enrolled at Western University, while Dominic will be attending University of Waterloo.

While with the Bucks program, Dominic and Nathan have been the definition of consistency in all areas that our program focuses on, and we are extremely proud of their accomplishments.  They are players that can be relied upon to not only show up everyday and give everything they have to their training, but to also carry themselves in a professional manner that displays their true character as young adults.  When asked about Nathan and Dominic, 18U Program Director Phil Curtis said, “They are very low maintenance players that just go about their business on a daily basis and do things the right way.  They have been a huge part of us building the culture we want to have around our program.  It has been a privilege to work with them over the years, and we look forward to continuing to watch them have success at whatever they choose to apply themselves to next.”

Despite having Colleges & Universities show interest in them joining their baseball programs, Dominic and Nathan have chosen to focus on their academics at the University level.  Both of these young men emphasized how much baseball has helped them with time management skills throughout high school.  After seeing the numerous academic achievements they both had while also balancing their baseball training, their full commitment to academics is sure to produce some tremendous results.

The Calgary Bucks Baseball Program is proud of Dominic and Nathan and would like to thank them for the commitment they have shown over the past several years.  Both display the character we try to instill in all of our young athletes, and we look forward to following them as they enter the next chapter.
